The trip starts with a local outreach day Saturday, May 30. Make sure your calendar is clear that day - we'll be heading somewhere close to do some outreach, ministry, and further preparation for the trip. Parents, you're welcome to join us that day. Thursday, June 4 through Friday June 5 will be a long day of team training and building at lone tree. Come packed with all your gear Saturday night. At 5:00, we will help set-up the PLEX for Velocity, then parents, you're invited to South Dakota night in the PLEX! It'll be a special prayer and commissioning service followed by a dessert for all the team members and families. Kiss your family goodbye - after that night, you won't see them for almost 2 solid weeks! We'll sleep at the church in designated areas Saturday night, and then hit the road at 7am Sunday morning, June 7.

IMPORTANT DATES:
We'll be helping with the Calvary Chapel in Dupree, SD which is run by missionaries, Chug & Karen Garreau. We'll be ministering to Lakota Sioux Native Americans on different reservations and local areas.
We'll get to do lots of new stuff this year! We'll go to a few skate parks to do some outreaches and street witnessing. We'll have giveaways for everyone there. Of course there will be plenty of work projects (cleaning, painting, etc) to do as well. We'll be doing a few outreaches to the local reservations such as a crusade for the kids with puppets, face painting, balloon animals, and more. If you know some magic tricks, juggling, or anything of the sort, we can use that! Also, since they speak English, we'll have many more opportunities to share the Gospel. A lot of our team training will be focused on sharing your testimony, the Gospel message, and much more! One cultural thing we'll get to do is washing feet and cutting hair. As it gets closer, we'll collect socks and shoes that we'll be able to give to them after we wash their feet and cut their hair. Chug & Karen said that kids accept Jesus all the time with this ministry since they're just sitting there as you wash their feet and share the Gospel with them!
A side note: this trip involves LOTS of driving - about 15 hours each way to South Dakota, plus, probably at least an hour or 2 of driving each day as we go to local ministry sites and reservations. If you get car sick, make sure to bring some medication with you to help with that.
The total trip cost is $850 per person. That money will cover transportation, food, ministry supplies, a water bottle, and a shirt, of course. We will have fundraisers for the trip along the way. You will only make money from the fundraisers if you come to them. ALL FUNDRAISERS ARE MANDATORY FOR THE WHOLE TEAM TO ATTEND whether or not you're paid off by then. We'll also be doing some other work-a-thon style fundraisers as well as some car washes. Remember not to rely completely on the fundraisers to pay for your trip!
Another much more dependable way to raise money is to send out support letters to family and friends. Tell them what you're doing, how much you need to raise, and how they can help - prayerfully, financially, etc.
$300 is due by Saturday, March 14th and ALL money ($850) is due by Saturday, May 23rd.
We will have MANDATORY team meetings the first Sunday of each month. These are very important meetings for ALL TEAM MEMBERS to attend - we will go over new information, fundraising info, cultural stuff, maybe even meet the missionaries we'll be serving with, do team-building activities and other important stuff regarding the trip.
Our missions website - velocityabq.org/missions - is also a great way to stay updated. We'll be updating it with pictures, info, and more as the trip gets closer. Also, while we're in South Dakota, we'll update the blog as often as possible to keep you families in the loop.
Soon, we should have a picture of each team member as well as a group shot up on the website. We will update those each month with each student's prayer requests as well as team prayer requests. Please keep us in your prayers and refer people to the site to pray for us.
