Each year Velocity partners with Operation Christmas Child to fill shoeboxes for children around the world who normally wouldn't get Christmas presents. This year, the 8th graders of Velocity have an amazing opportunity to see first hand where the shoeboxes end up! That's right you guys, we'll be heading to Juarez, Mexico December 11th-14th with another group from Calvary to hang out with the children and pass out their gifts. This trip is only open to 8th grade students and the cost is $150. Interested? Grab and application from the back table, talk to your parents, and be sure to turn it in by November 9th with a $50 non-refundable deposit.

VERTICAL JUNIORS & SENIORS, are you interested in being a Velocity leader, learning the behind-the-scenes of ministry in a hands-on setting, and having an impact in the lives of middle school students? Then the Velocity Leader Internship may be for you! This is a great way to learn, serve, and grow in the ministry and your spiritual gifts!

Here are the details:
- The Velocity Leader Internship is mandatory for Juniors & Seniors or students 16-18 years old that want to be involved with Velocity leadership - You MUST have been attending Vertical High School Ministry consistently for at least 6 months to be involved as a Velocity Intern and continue through graduation
- JUNIORS (16 & 17 years old): the Internship program will last for a minimum of 1 year
- SENIORS (18 years old): the Internship program will last for a minimum of 6 months
- As a part of your commitment to the Velocity Leader Internship program, you will be committing to meet at least twice a month with a current Velocity leader (same gender as you, appointed by Velocity leadership) simply for accountability in your walk with God and your commitment to Velocity

Here are the differences between an Intern-Leader and a Leader:
- You will attend Velocity/Vertical events as a STUDENT, not a Velocity Intern-Leader until you’ve graduated from high school
- You are involved with Velocity NOT to lead, but to learn, serve, plan, set-up, and attend
- You will be attending monthly leaders meetings
- Involvement as an Intern-Leader will be somewhat limited, but also pretty open (we’ll spell out exactly what your role looks like after you’ve turned in the application)

The idea stems from myspace secret shows where myspace hosts a concert in a random city with a random band with very little promotion. Our idea is way better though, because it involves you and your best friends every month or so!

Here's the deal...
Stay tuned to Velocity's myspace (no, you don't have to have your own myspace to see ours) and be watching for the "secret hangouts" logo (pictured to the right). Details of a hidden hangout location will be posted and all you need to do is show up (and of course bring some cash if you want to eat/play/watch or whatever it may involve) and you'll get to hang with some fellow mid-school/high school students and leaders!

Get on the ball this August 2 with the first ever Baseline Devotion basketball game! Pull out your Air Jordan's as we hit the outdoor courts for a game of 3 on 3. Sign ups begin at 3:30pm and we'll play from 4-6pm. 30 minutes after the game is Velocity and everyone is invited…so invite everyone! These awesome games will go down every other Saturday and we want you to be there. Not a b-ball fan? We'll have volleyball games running at the same time. So grab your sweat bands and your gym shorts and meet us at the courts!

On Aug 23, we will begin our study through the book of Revelation for ALL Velocity services (weekend & Wednesday) as we look at how close the end is and what our job in the mean time looks like. The weekends will be an overview through the book, Wednesday nights will be hands-on!

The power of a simple gift at Christmas brings the good news of God’s love to millions of children around the world. We are doing Ding Dong Ditch the Christian way on Friday, November 21st and you are invited! We'll meet in the Family Room by the main Sanctuary at 6pm and head out to buy items and food to bless a family in need. Please bring $5 to help with the cost of these items. Our estimated ending time is 9pm and your parents can pick you up right back at Calvary.

We are packing the PLEX on Wednesday, December 3rd for our regularly scheduled service (7pm) to worship "With One Voice." We are calling in all of Velocity along with high school, college students and older to join us for a worship experience of epic proportions…so invite everyone! As we draw from this scripture in Revelation, we will spend time in prayer and a short Bible study before continuing in worship to our King.
